What’s in a Name? Reflection for 1 January 2017

Talk about follow through, the angel said his name was to be Jesus, God is our salvation, and Emmanuel, God with us, before the birth. The temptation was there to name him after Joseph’s line, but that did not happen. The shepherds came into the city not worrying about their flocks, filled with excitement over what has just happened. Can you imagine having angels appear in the night sky above where you were making camp for the night? Then telling you that what was foretold in prophecy is actually happening right at this moment? Wow! Two major events in one night!

I am not sure I could have been as calm as the shepherds. I would have been freaking out.

God, appearing as a baby, entering into our realm, no wonder the stars shined bright and the world was experiencing an intensity that it had only experienced at the beginning of time itself, with the creation. Could anything have been of more major consequence than the savior of the world being born in a stable? The name of Jesus, the name where the entire world will bow it’s knee when spoken. The name of Jesus is not something one should banter about much as you would a political leader or celebrity. IMPORTANT TO KNOW!!! You have the name for which the world will be saved. You have been reserved and marked by God, for God, in the name of Jesus. Just think how important you are if you are set aside in the name of Jesus, the Son of the Living God.

What can touch you eternally? Nothing can touch you and everlasting joy and life with the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. It is time we accept the truth of the name of Jesus and act in the same manner. Amen!
